What to do if Claude is down

  1. Check the status above. If the official Claude status page shows an active incident, the problem is on the service side and your settings are not the cause: wait until it is fixed.
  2. If there is no incident but Claude still does not respond for you: reload the page, sign out and back in, try another browser or a private window, and update the app.
  3. Check your plan limits. When the message or request limit runs out, the service returns an error or asks you to wait.
  4. Using the API: error 429 means a rate limit, errors 500-503 mean a problem on the service side. Retry with a delay that grows after each attempt.
  5. Need an AI model right now: switch to another one from the list below that is currently up.

There are two possible reasons: an outage on the Claude side or a problem on yours (network, browser, plan limit). The status at the top of this page comes from the official Claude status page and refreshes every 5 minutes.

How do I know if Claude is down for everyone?

If the official status page shows an active incident, the outage affects many users. If there is no incident, the problem is more likely on your side.

What should I do if Claude is not responding?

Reload the page, sign in again, check your plan limits and try another browser. If there is an official outage, wait for the fix or use another AI model for now.
