Your Claude subscription just broke free: it now works in OpenCode
The open source AI agent OpenCode now runs on your Claude Pro or Max plan, no separate API bill. One command to set up.

OpenCode, the popular open source AI coding agent, shipped version 2.2.3 last night, and the headline feature is simple: you can now plug in your own Claude subscription. Not a separate API key billed per token, but the same Pro or Max plan you already pay for every month. The team's short post, "you can now use your claude subscription in OpenCode", passed 760,000 views in less than a day.
Setup takes a minute. Install Claude Code, run claude auth login once, then open /connect in OpenCode and pick the Claude Agent provider. Claude models then show up in the usual list, billed against your own plan.
The clever part is how it works. OpenCode never touches your login and doesn't store tokens. It launches your own unmodified Claude Code through Anthropic's official Claude Agent SDK and uses it purely as the brain. Claude Code's built-in tools are switched off, and the model works through OpenCode's own tools over MCP. Permissions, agents and sessions stay OpenCode's, and your credentials stay on your machine.
The catch is in Anthropic's rules. Third-party apps aren't allowed to offer Claude account sign-in or route requests through users' subscriptions. But a user is allowed to sign in to the original Claude Code with their own plan, and that is exactly what OpenCode builds on. The author of the change openly wrote that the policy question was for the maintainers to decide, and Anthropic's docs say it may enforce its restrictions without prior notice.
For now it's the easiest way to get Claude inside an open agent without paying twice. How long the party lasts is up to Anthropic.
