OpenAI leaks its AI lawyer: GPT-6 Astra Law shows up early
OpenAI's official API price list now includes gpt-6-astra-law, a legal configuration priced like flagship Astra. No announcement yet.

This morning OpenAI's official API pricing page quietly grew a new section called "Legal model configurations". It has exactly one row: gpt-6-astra-law. People who watch AI company websites around the clock spotted it at about 4:01 AM ET, and by midday it was all over AI Twitter.
The listed price matches regular GPT-6 Astra, the most powerful model in OpenAI's current lineup: $10 per million input tokens, $50 per million output tokens and $1 for cached input. A note under the table says the GPT-6 Astra for Law promotional pricing is available at least through December 31, 2026.
That is everything OpenAI has said so far. The model's docs page still returns "not found", and there is no blog post or announcement from the company. The name and the separate section suggest this is not a brand new model but a version of Astra tuned for legal work: contracts, case law, compliance. Law is one of the most lucrative markets for AI, and specialised services like Harvey have long been built on top of the same OpenAI models.
OpenAI often ships this way: first a line in the price list, then the post. It probably won't be a long wait. Legal startups selling a wrapper around GPT should start sweating now.
