The ChatGPT apps for iOS and Android can now keep two accounts signed in and switch without logging out. Chats, memory and subscriptions stay separate.

Keeping a work ChatGPT and a personal one no longer means the endless log out, log back in routine. The iOS and Android apps now have an account switcher: you can stay signed in to two accounts at once and jump between them in a couple of taps.

It lives in Settings under Switch account, then Add account. The accounts stay fully apart: each has its own chats, memory, files, settings and subscription. A paid plan on one does not carry over to the other, and a new account created from there starts on the Free plan. Notifications arrive for both, and tapping one for the other account switches you over automatically.

Switching also works on the ChatGPT website, and the desktop app is promised to get it soon. The rollout is gradual, so if the option isn't there yet, it simply hasn't reached you.

OpenAI's release notes date the feature to October 30, and Codex lead Thibault Sottiaux made it loud this morning. It is day 26 of his "28 days of shipping" run, and in the same post he promised that the final two days will be usage limit resets. The post passed a million views within hours.

A small thing people have begged for since forever. If you keep a separate account for work, life just got easier.
