If you ever wanted your own AI data center and didn't know where to shop, the answer turned out to be eBay. Core 4 Solutions, a Minnesota reseller of used server hardware, listed a 300-rack cluster there for 59.7 million dollars or best offer.

Inside are 9,600 Nvidia A100 40GB accelerators and 4,200 AMD EPYC Rome 64-core processors. Each rack holds four compute nodes, each with eight A100s, two EPYCs, 1 TB of DDR4 and eight 200Gb/s ConnectX-6 network cards, plus three management nodes. Add it up and you get 268,800 CPU cores and roughly 1.4 petabytes of RAM.

The seller says the gear was decommissioned from a hyperscaler cloud and is fully working. There is a 30-day warranty and no returns. FedEx Ground shipping is free, overnight is 50 dollars, and local pickup is an option. The listing also bans export to China, Russia, Iran and other countries under US sanctions.

The A100 is two generations behind Nvidia's current Blackwell and Vera Rubin, but it is still widely used for inference and training smaller models, while new racks cost millions each and come with a waitlist. A rough estimate puts the accelerators, CPUs and memory alone at about 28 million dollars.

It didn't stay up long. On October 28 the seller ended the listing, saying the item is no longer available. Whether it actually sold hasn't been disclosed.

Verdict: the AI boom has reached the point where a supercomputer gets listed like a used couch.
