Microsoft is kicking Copilot off every smart TV
LG TV owners got a notice that Microsoft is ending Copilot support on all TVs, with the shutdown scheduled for 2026.

Microsoft is quietly pulling Copilot from smart TVs. The news didn't come from a press release but from a pop-up: on the morning of October 28, owners of LG webOS TVs saw a notice saying Microsoft "has recently decided to end support for Copilot functionality on all TVs." Zac Bowden of Windows Central spotted it first, and Reddit users soon posted the same message.
The notice says the Copilot feature on the TV is already unavailable and may stop working at any moment. There's no exact date: the shutdown is scheduled for 2026, with the specific day "subject to Microsoft's timeline." Voice search and AI Concierge features built on Copilot are on the chopping block. Microsoft itself hasn't made any official announcement yet.
Copilot arrived on LG and Samsung TVs after CES 2025. You could chat with it, ask about what was on screen and get suggestions on what to watch. It never caught on: last December LG faced a backlash when a webOS update added a Copilot shortcut that couldn't be removed. After the complaints, LG let people delete it.
The reason is clear even without a statement. This year Microsoft folded chat, agents and coding into a single Copilot app and is steering it toward work and business, not couch conversation. A TV companion no longer fits that picture.
Bottom line: the AI nobody asked for is leaving as quietly as it arrived.
