AI Agent Courses: How to Choose Training That Is More Than Rehashed Docs
How to choose an AI agent or AI-for-business course: what it should teach, signs of an empty course, questions to ask before paying and how to learn on a real task yourself.
There are now more courses on AI and AI agents than working agents. Many are rehashed documentation plus a prompt collection. Here is how to tell training that leaves you with a working system from training that leaves you with notes.
What a good AI agent course should teach
- What an agent really is: model, tools, rules, memory, oversight.
- How to write roles and rules so the agent does not mix up priorities.
- How to connect data and tools: APIs, n8n, MCP.
- How to choose a model for a task by quality, speed and price.
- How to handle failures: timeouts, retries, duplicates, "sent but never appeared".
- How to check and log decisions.
- How to run a pilot and roll out further.
If the programme is only prompts and a tour of services, it is an AI course, not an agent course.
Signs of an empty course
- The author shows none of their own working systems.
- Every example is "an agent in 10 minutes", with no breakdown of failures.
- It promises income or "replacing employees" instead of a skill.
- There is no practice on your tasks, only following along.
- The programme never changes, though tools change monthly.
Questions to ask before paying
- Which of your systems are running right now, and what do they do?
- What broke, and how did you fix it?
- Will we build something for my task?
- What will I be able to do on my own afterwards?
- How do you update the programme?
Learning on your own
- 01Taskfrom your own work
- 02Agentsimple, in n8n
- 03Datareal
- 04Fixesone at a time
- 05Nextthe next task
It is possible without a course, with discipline:
- Take one real task from your work.
- Build a simple agent in n8n or with Claude Code.
- Run it on real data and note everything that goes wrong.
- Fix one problem at a time.
- Only then move on to the next task.
A course or mentor is there to get you down that path faster and help you avoid the pitfalls others already hit.
How I teach
I teach using examples from my own production systems: an AI agent newsroom, a content pipeline, n8n automations. The format is one-on-one sessions and team training. We start with your task, not theory. The outcome is a working system, not a set of notes.
FAQ
Do I need to code to learn AI agents?
No. To start, n8n and vibe coding with Claude Code or Cursor are enough. AI writes the code; you learn to brief and check.
How long does it take to learn to build agents?
A first simple agent takes a few sessions. Confidently building systems for daily work takes months of practice.
Which AI course should a business choose?
One that teaches solving business problems on your data, not just using a chatbot. Look at the author's real work and whether the course covers your tasks.
Is there free AI agent training?
There is documentation, communities and free videos. That is a good start if you are ready to experiment a lot yourself.
